“Fowl” Weather

I have been complaining about the weather for a few weeks now.  We have had 51 inches of snow during the month of April (a record) and have experienced the third snowiest season in Duluth’s history.  During a brief bit of sunny party cloudy skies yesterday, I saw geese and ducks in the Harbor enjoying the warmth of the partial sun.

Despite some partial sunshine during the day, the evening looked like this…AGAIN!

Our Last Snow Storm?

Luckily the sun came back out today, melted most of the snow from last night and is supposed to be back this weekend along with temperatures in the 60’s.  I can hardly wait!

Along with today’s sun, came many more birds in the Harbor, including this seagull and more geese.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the weather forecasters are accurate in their predictions.  Next time I post, my sincere hope is that it has nothing to do with snow!

Week In Review

We spent Easter weekend in the Twin Cities enjoying time with family.  Sebastian and Sophia love hanging out with their cousins (and Aunt & Uncle and Grandparents).  Saturday was spent playing outside, coloring Easter eggs and celebrating their cousin Ella’s birthday with a delicious dinner and birthday cake.

We went to mass with Mike’s parents on Sunday and enjoyed a wonderful Easter dinner with the whole family.  The kids had their annual Easter egg hunt, not indoors, but in the basement.  There was too much snow and mud outside.  I neglected to take photos except one of the cousins.  Our sister-in-law was kind enough to take a photo of the four of us.

We had a week filled with school and work, along with evenings spent at a baseball practice, a piano lesson, gymnastics and an art night with friends.  Here is a sample of what we worked on.

We found these two in our neighbor’s backyard on Friday morning.  Make yourself at home!

On my way into work I spotted two geese swimming alongside the William A. Irvin.

Sophia had her first piano recital Friday evening.  It was a small performance with some of her teacher’s other students.  They played at a senior apartment building.  Sophia was a little nervous, but didn’t miss a note when it was her turn to play.  She looked very confident behind the piano.  Her cousin, Katelyn, is also a student so we were able to see her perform as well.  We are looking forward to the big recital in May!

A quick recap of our week and a few gratuitous photos…

My Valentine’s bouquet still has blossoms.  The irises finished last week, but the lilies are still blooming.  Here is one of the stargazer lilies a few days ago.

The ice in the harbor made an unusual pattern last week.

The kids enjoyed a week off from school during their winter break last week.  They spent three days with some old daycare friends.  Mike and I took the other two days off from work to make for a long weekend with the kids.  We spent Thursday skiing and enjoyed a night away from home by using a gift certificate for a local hotel (with a pool for the kids, of course).

Sophia had a playdate with a good friend on Saturday.  They built a snowman in the front yard.

Sunday was spent at Chester Bowl.  Mike was volunteering as a ski patrol while Sophia competed in her first ski race of the season.  Sebastian wasn’t feeling well, but came with to help cheer her on.

There was a near full moon on Sunday night.  I was with Sebastian while we took Daphne for a walk.  The moon was golden while it was rising up from the lake.  This is what it looked like by the time we got back to the house.

Yesterday’s sunrise was quite beautiful.  I wish I had been down by the lake taking photos.  Instead, I stood outside my front door in my bathrobe snapping a few pictures before I got too cold and had to go inside.

Mike just informed me that it is after ten o’clock and time to wrap it up.  My alarm at 5:30am comes way too soon.  Until next time.
