The sun was about to set when I left work yesterday. There was a pinkish hue in the skyline. I had to take a few minutes before heading home to capture these huge chunks of ice in the harbor. They look like giant lily pads.

The John G. Munson arrives under the Aerial Lift Bridge on January 20 and will stay for winter layup. It was the last to arrive for the season. It will spend the next two months getting routine maintenance work and repairs. The 2015 shipping season is due to begin in late March.

Following the long holiday break, the kids are back to school. Mike and I are back to work and the temperatures are back to below zero. It was a cold start to the day for everyone, but especially for this tugboat captain breaking ice in the Duluth Harbor just after sunrise this morning.
