Ships, Sea Smoke and a Sunrise

I had great intentions to make it to work on time this morning…until I decided to bring my camera with me.  I ended up taking a little detour.  First stop, the parking lot at the church Mike & I were married.  The parking lot has fabulous views of Lake Superior.  The sun had just risen and the sea smoke was billowing up from the lake.  Ten ships were anchored awaiting their turn at the dock (there really are ten, you just can’t see them all in my photo).

I wanted a closer look, so I made another stop at the shore of Lake Superior.  The ships were there, just not visible because of the low level sea smoke.

I finally made it to my destination and this was the view outside the back door.

What a beautiful place to live and work…despite the subzero temps.  I’m still trying to warm up.

It Never Gets Old

By request, Mike and I brought Sophia and her friends to Canal Park on Saturday evening to celebrate her (belated) birthday.  She and her friends wanted to go out to dinner and walk around Canal Park and the Lakewalk.  It was a nice evening and there were many tourists in the shops, restaurants and wandering around by the lake.  We decided to also do the tourist thing while waiting for Sophia and her friends.  As we walked around by the lake we saw the stream of tourists headed for the canal in anticipation of a large ship making its way into port.  Although we have seen more ships than we can count over the years, we paused and decided to watch the ship too.  As we watched it approach, we realized it is still fun to see after all these years.  I’m still amazed that they can navigate through the narrow canal and under the Aerial Lift Bridge.  It really never gets old.
