Take Me Out To The Ballpark

Another baseball season is upon us.  Sebastian is in his 2nd year of minors in Little League.  This is his first year as pitcher though.  He has a very strong lefty throw.  So strong that I make him ease up a bit when we play catch in the backyard.  (Just to be clear, Mary is writing this, not Mike.)  I never thought a 9 year could throw that hard.  He has struck out a few kids already and shows great promise for the season.  His fielding and batting has been great.  He is quite a player.  Look out MN Twins!

Here are a few photos I took during his pitching debut.

On a side note, I didn’t have much opportunity for game photos.  Sophia and I were spectators while Mike was coaching.  We thought it would be good to bring Daphne along since she had been home alone most of the day.  What I didn’t realize is that boxers are kid magnets.  I could have assembled my own T-Ball team will all of the little kids that wanted to pet her (and get licked by her).  I made the same mistake last night too.  If there are going to be any more game photos, Daphne is going to have to stay back at the house.  Sorry Daphne!

Weary Weekend

The weather was less than fabulous this past weekend – windy and cooler with off and on sprinkles.  We were all wiped out from traveling last weekend and a busy work/school week.  It was nice to stay home, get a few projects and some cleaning done and just hang out.  Since outdoor play was less than favorable, we decided to set up Sophia’s tent in the living room.  The kids plugged in their portable DVD player, grabbed some snacks and camped out in the living on Saturday afternoon.

Sophia and I did sneak outside between wind gusts and sprinkles to pick some spring flowers.

We decided to go to the movies on Sunday and see How To Train Your Dragon.  We all enjoyed the movie…and the buttery popcorn.  Despite the windy weather in the afternoon, the boys headed out to the baseball field to practice pitching and batting.  At home, Sophia convinced me to do some baking with her.  A friend from work had passed along her child’s Easy Bake Oven.  We made two batches of cookies.  Sophia ate one batch and Sebastian ate the other.  Mike was disappointed that there weren’t any left for him.  I had to explain that each batch makes only ONE cookie.  Not only does the oven only bake one cookie at a time, they take FOREVER!  At least that’s what it seemed like when Sophia was waiting for her cookie to finish baking.

After cookies, we went out to take a few pictures of the cherry blossoms.  A pleasant way to finish the weekend.

Ski Weekend

The four of us ventured out both Saturday and Sunday to the ski hill.  We used our free Mount Du Lac ski passes on Saturday.  The weather was perfect,  ski conditions were ideal and the hill was not crowded.  We spent about four hours skiing (and snacking – the kids got hungry).  Mike spent most of his time working with Sophia, but did have a chance to go down the black diamond hill with Sebastian a few times.  Mike was preparing for his ski trip with his Dad and brother next month, while Sebastian was practicing for the Chester Bowl ski races the next day.  Sebastian also worked with me practicing his race moves.  He gave me a (big) head start.  He beat me most of the time despite the lead.

We were lucky enough to run into friends that were also skiing with their kids.  They took this snapshot of us at the top of the hill.  Thanks Kim & Kyle!

Mount Du Lac
All of the skiing Saturday paid off for the kids.  Both Sebastian and Sophia had their best times yet at the ski races on Sunday.  Sebastian finished 3rd in his division, only 1/100th of second behind the 2nd place winner.  Sophia shaved off several seconds from her previous races.  Way to go!!

I took  short video clips of the kids during the races and uploaded them to our Flickr site.  Just click on their names to open the Flickr video page.
