Gooseberry Falls

With the kids on spring break this week, Mike and I decided to take a day off from work to go on a short day trip.  We hit the jackpot with warm, sunny weather on Monday.  Temperatures were in the 60’s.  Not bad for April!  We packed a picnic lunch, loaded the kids and Daphne in the car and headed north.  Mike wanted to bring the kids to Gooseberry Falls.  We often visited once or twice a year before we had kids, but haven’t been back since Sebastian was born.  We arrived at the park, got Daphne’s leash on, grabbed a backpack with supplies and hiked out to the falls.

Mike had the kids pose for this shot.  This is right before Sebastian shoved Sophia’s arm away.  Brotherly love!

Gazing At The River

I thought that I would spend some time taking great pictures of the falls, but I didn’t even bring my tripod with and we were on a mission to get out to Lake Superior.  This is the only shot I have of the falls without the kids.  Oh well, maybe next time.

If I had the 70-200mm Canon lens that I’ve been trying to talk Mike into letting me purchase, this photo of a deer that we saw across the river would be so much better.

And finally we make it out to the lake.

We made a stop at the visitor’s center before we left the park.  The kids brought along a few dollars just in case they had a gift shop.  Mike was thinking they would purchase a small souvenir with the words “Gooseberry Falls” etched somewhere on it.  A nice momento to remember a great family day.  Instead, the kids each purchased plush stuffed bald eagles.  Interesting choice, but it was their own money.

We planned to stop at Dairy Queen in Two Harbors for a treat on the way back, but we were all wiped out from the hike, including Daphne who slept the whole way home.

Week In Review

A quick recap of the past week…

Sunday – Chef’s Club Brunch and a Car Show

As usual, the brunch was fabulous.  No time for photos, we were all too busy eating.  We followed the brunch by a quick tour through the car show next door.

Tuesday – Chester Bowl Ski Banquet

Sophia's Medal - Seb's 1st Place Trophy

Wednesday – No activities.  We took a family walk in the evening.  The boys threw the ball around while Sophia and I checked out the spring plants coming up.  The boys took a break from their game to pose for some pictures.

Thursday – We enjoyed an evening out with the kids at the Seussical playWe were given tickets at Christmas and have been waiting to check it out.  We were not disappointed.

Friday – End of the week…finally!  Mike had the day off and I used a vacation day so that we could spend time together.  We were able to hang out, watch the Today show, take Daphne for a leisurely walk and enjoy a quiet house.  We did have to pick the kids up from school in the afternoon, but it was a good day.   We need to do this again…SOON!

Happy Easter!

We enjoyed a nice, but quiet Easter weekend.  We drove out to my parents’ house on Saturday.  The kids dyed Easter eggs with some help from Grandma.  We all had a good time including Daphne who loved her time out in the country.

The kids searched for their Easter baskets first thing this morning.  We opted for the 11am church service so that we could enjoy the morning in our pj’s.  It was a bit windy outside when we got back from church so we decided to have our Easter egg hunt indoors.  We did get a chance to spend some time outside later in the day.  We (I) cooked a yummy ham dinner with home-made scalloped potatoes, french bread and sautéed pea pods and carrots.  Fresh from the oven, double chocolate brownies with ice cream and strawberry sauce for dessert.  We’re all stuffed!
