Randomness

My intention was to do a recap about our trip, but we’ve had a number of things going on since we came back that need some recognition first.

Sebastian was chosen for the 9 & 10 year old All-Star baseball team earlier this month.  He is winding down his regular Little League season with a playoff game tonight (his 3rd this week), has a practice for All-Stars tomorrow, participates in an All-Stars tournament this weekend, followed by one or two more playoff games next week if his team wins tonight and keeps winning.

Papa Tom & Nana Karen came to cheer him on last night.  It’s nice to have your own fan club at age 9!  The ice cream after the game compliments of Nana & Papa was very nice too.

Sophia lost her second tooth yesterday.  She had been asking for me to pull it out for a couple of weeks.  Each time she asked me, I mentioned that it may bleed or hurt a little.  We decided to wait until it was just right before we do it – just like last time – no pain and no blood, all smiles.  After a very minor incident with an elbow to her mouth yesterday at daycare, it popped right out.  Thanks Alexander, we know it was an accident!

The small pool in our backyard is up and running for the season.  Everyone has enjoyed cooling off in it, especially Sophia.

Making A Splash

I have a number of photos from our cabin weekends with the Sullivan family from Memorial Day and the end of June that I haven’t posted.  Maybe I will do a summer cabin recap post after Labor Day with the best ones.  For now, here are a few that caught my eye.

Okay, that’s enough randomness for one day.  Off to the baseball field!

Dad’s Day

Mike had a few small requests for Father’s Day – time to relax with family, a nice dinner and a car wash and vacuum.  I think we were able to accomplish all of that and more.  The kids made cards and also gave him gifts in the morning.
My Daddy

After gifts, Sophia and I washed his car while Sebastian helped him with a project in the back yard.  The car took a while since the interior hadn’t been vacuumed or cleaned since last fall.  I think we emptied about 5 pounds of dirt out of his car.  He blames the kids and their dirty shoes all winter long.

Mike’s parents arrived in the early afternoon and we enjoyed a light lunch out on the deck.  Our hope was to find an open baseball field and throw the ball around.  Sebastian wanted to show off his pitching skills, but there were games or practices on all of the nearby fields.  Instead we went over to Hartley park and hiked up to the highest point.  Before we made it to the top, we stopped at the pond.  We saw fish, a turtle and a few dragonflies.

We finished the day with a nice dinner – pork tenderloin, risotto, salad and french bread.  Dessert was homemade chocolate pudding with fresh whipped cream.  Oh, I almost forgot…lots of red wine too!  A perfect finish to a perfect day.  Right, Mike?

Thirty-Nine

Tuesday was my birthday.  It wasn’t a big milestone birthday, but in some ways it seems like maybe it was.  As my Mom said in my birthday card, “…your last year of your thirties”.  Wow, when did I get so old?  Despite the number, I had a fabulous day.  Mike and I took the day off from work.  He got the kids off to school in the morning and brought back flowers, a fancy coffee and bagels with cream cheese.  We enjoyed our breakfast while watching the Today Show.  After getting our fill of the news and bagels, we decided to take Daphne for a long walk around the neighborhood.  The weather was in the 70’s and it was sunny – no rain, tornado warnings or 39 degree temperatures like I’ve had some years on my birthday.

We checked out our yard and gardens when we got back.  I also looked in on our nesting birds.  Three babies had hatched!

After our stroll around the yard, we headed to Valentini’s restaurant for lunch.  We had a great table outside overlooking the lake.  We were planning to go to a movie in the afternoon, but the weather was too nice.  We opted for a walk along the Lakewalk instead.  We ended up having ice cream at the Bridgeman’s at Fitger’s and walked down to the lake to dip our toes in to cool off a bit.

We finished off the evening with a quick dinner and some birthday cake.

I can’t think of a better way to spend my last birthday in my thirties. 🙂
