Labor Day Weekend

We spent Labor Day weekend at Mike’s parents’ cabin.  We lucked out and had great weather.  We enjoyed fishing, swimming, boating and playing in the sand.  Sophia also found a special friend to play with while we were there.  Here’s the recap in photos.

It was nice to see the kids working together to build a sand castle kingdom.

In the evening, we watched the full moon come up over the lake and enjoyed the campfire.

A little late night fishing for Mike and Sophia brought in a catfish.  It was quickly removed from the hook and released back into the lake.

The next morning Sophia hooked a huge sunfish.

Big Catch

After Sophia’s big catch, Mike caught two bass.  Tom and Sophia volunteered to scale, clean and filet them.  I was quite impressed that Sophia took part in this.  She is a city girl and becomes sad when a spider is killed instead of being released outside.

They finished the weekend with one last cannon ball into the lake.

End Of The Season

Here are a few photos of the garden taken at the end of August.  We are still picking tomatoes, using basil in pesto and caprese salads, picking beans and cucumbers and harvesting a few of the carrots.  We also have Concord grapes that need to be made into jelly and apples to pick.  I’m way behind with my blogging as we were out of town during the Labor Day weekend and have spent the past week preparing for the kids to return to school.  Lots to do and not nearly enough time to do it.

Date Night

While the kids were at a sleepover with friends, Mike and I ventured out for a much-needed date night.  Although we were not overly creative, we did have a great evening.  We both had a long work week and couldn’t have picked a better night to sit outside on a warm August evening.  We enjoyed drinks, an appetizer and dinner on Valentini’s deck.  After dinner, we walked over to the Rose Garden and Lakewalk.

A big thank you to our friends who had the kids over night.  It was the perfect way to end a long week.
