-34 Degrees + Lake Superior + Wind = Ice

Mike’s drive to work on Thursday morning was -34 degrees.  It may have warmed up a few degrees when I left 45 minutes later, but my car’s thermometer only goes as low as -22.  I didn’t know that until this year.  I guess Nissan doesn’t think it gets colder than that.  Well, it does.  It was brutally cold this week and the wind made it even more miserable.  School was canceled for three days.  That. Never. Happens. In. Minnesota.

It had warmed up to a balmy -15 by sunset on Thursday.  Mike and I stopped by a few places along the shore of Lake Superior to check out the ice.  Mike viewed it from the warmth of his Jeep.  I ventured out to take photos.  It was nice of him to keep the vehicle warm for me.

By Friday, temperatures were above zero.  That’s when I saw people ice fishing on the big lake near Canal Park.  I chose to take photos safely from shore.

Spring is just around the corner…right?

Gales Of April

It started with high winds yesterday. Lake Superior was incredible. Photos below. Heavy snow came today. I didn’t take any photos of the snow. It’s the middle of April. No one wants to see snow.  NO ONE.

Here are a couple of images of what the area looks like on an ordinary day just to give you an idea of how angry the lake was.

Brighton Beach was another great place to watch the waves roll in.

The snow is still coming down. Probably just under a foot of snow before it’s all done. School is already canceled for tomorrow.  The kids are happy.  Me…not so much.  Time to dig out.

Catching Up

February has past.  March is almost over.  I’ve neglected posting photos over the last several weeks.  Partly because my hard drive crashed and I had to install a new one.  This process was not as simple as I had hoped.  I still have to retrieve photos and documents from the old one.   Luckily the drive is not completely dead and I have a back up of everything.

Here’s a look at what I’ve been photographing recently.

Ice…lots of it in various forms.

Ice and boats.

Snow, tree, pine cone.  I’m sensing a theme here.

How about a new theme.  Sunrises, super blue blood moon and a full moon?

And best of all, a photo before the father-daughter ball.

I’m looking forward to spring and the hopes of warmer temperatures, green grass and no more ice and snow.  Until then…
