Sophia’s Special Day

Sophia had her 1st communion this past Sunday. We were fortunate to share the day with both sets of Sophia’s grandparents, an aunt, an uncle and cousins.

We went back to our house for lunch after the service.

Sophia helped to make the fancy cookies.

A quick change into comfy clothes before opening gifts.

Because it was so cold and windy on 1st communion day, I made her put the dress on again for some outdoor photos the next day.

She got a little bored with the serious photos, so she decided to do her own thing.

By this point it was obviously time to be done with photos, but I did snap one more after the veil was off and we were inside.

We are grateful that we had our family here to join us for this memorable event. Sophia received wonderful gifts that she will always cherish. Beautiful necklaces, a personalized bible, a cool book to guide her in her faith and a very special gift from her Grandma – a sterling silver rosary that she purchased over 60 years ago and wanted to pass on to her granddaughter. It was a very special day indeed.

Priceless

My little take on the popular Visa commercials…

Trip #1 to vet after dog gets into something, has allergic reaction, needs several lab tests, steroid shot and prednisone prescription – $361.78
Trip #2 to vet to pick up doxycycline antibiotic for positive Lymes disease test – $23.79
Trip #3 to vet the next week because allergic reaction returns, needs another steroid shot and prednisone prescription – $79.17
Trip #4 to vet because dog gets stung by insect, face swells, stops eating for three days, needs another steroid shot and prednisone prescription – $116.43
Seeing your daughter with her (now healthy) dog after being gone for several days…priceless.

*All of the above events happened within the past three weeks. Fingers crossed that we are done with the vet until next year’s check up.

Date Night

The kids have been in the Twin Cities with their grandparents since Sunday evening. They have had a couple of fun-filled days with trips to the movies, the Mall of America, amusement park rides and going out to eat. Mike and I haven’t been quite as adventurous. We have spent the past few days at work and one of our two full evenings alone, Mike was at board meeting for three hours. We planned to have a date night last. A night on the town – dinner, drinks, conversation. After being gone all weekend and long days at work and in meetings, we decided to have our date night at home. We never get quiet evenings without the kids. Dinners are usually rushed and the meal is not always as appreciated by the kids. We decided to open a bottle of wine, cook some good food and enjoy the music of our choosing. Best of all, we were able to enjoy the evening in comfy clothes and it was much less expensive than going out. We made the right choice. Here’s what was on the menu.

We were both so stuffed that I’m glad we didn’t bother making a special dessert. We did raid the fridge at around 9pm and Mike found a piece of cheesecake that we brought home from Easter dinner and I nibbled on a sugar cookie bunny with white chocolate icing. A nice way to end a great evening!
