Rock On

With cold temperatures and rain, we found ourselves hanging out in the basement tonight after dinner.  Sebastian started playing computer games and Sophia played with toys.  I decided to play a few songs of Guitar Hero.  Soon both kids left what they were doing and started dancing to Blondie, Pat Benatar, Smashing Pumpkins, Linkin Park and Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell.  As I played more songs, the kids got wilder and wilder with their dance moves adding kicks, twists and twirls.  Sophia even danced with her “ballet” moves.  She was pretty cute.  I wish I could have caught them on video or even snapped a picture, but I was too busy rocking out.  At the same time, it was probably best that I didn’t.  Sebastian declared that he was too hot from dancing and took off his shirt to cool off.  Because Sophia has to do everything her older brother does, she did the same.  Instead of my pretty little ballet dancer, she looked like a Vegas showgirl.  It was time for me to hang up the guitar for the night.

Last Day Of School

Sebastian’s last day of school is today.  I grabbed the camera as an afterthought as he was headed out the door.  He didn’t want to wait for me to take a picture, but I talked him into one.  He has a great summer lined up including time at his regular daycare (his friends who are the same age will be back again this year too).  He will also spend a few days in the Twin Cities with his cousins and some time with his grandparents at their cabin in Northern Minnesota.  We also have a vacation planned and will spend time being tourists in Duluth along with some other day trips.  If only we could get some warmer weather, we would be all set.

Birthday (in Black and White)

I celebrated my 38th birthday on Monday.  Mike and I took the afternoon off from work and enjoyed a quiet lunch at Blackwoods followed by coffee at Caribou (thanks for the gift card Tom & Karen!) and a walk around Canal Park.  Despite the fact that both of us were recovering from colds/flu, we had a great afternoon.  We picked Sebastian up a little early from Kid Connection.  Then Mike went to get Sophia from daycare while I hung out with Sebastian.  Sophia insisted that we open cards and gifts as soon as she got home.  Mike and the kids picked out three new books so that I can relax and enjoy some great reading at the cabin during our vacation next month.  Sebastian picked out a shiny new stainless steel blender to make my favorite smoothies – and perhaps a daiquiri or margarita :).  My current blender is almost 15 years old and I think its life is coming to an end soon.  We had a great dinner at home and a delicious birthday cake.  Thanks for a great birthday!!
