I couldn’t let this piece of Sophia’s artwork go without posting it to our site. This is my favorite so far. The whole family is represented including Daphne our boxer and Sebastian’s giant goldfish.

Every so often one of my favorite websites has a photography contest. There is a new theme for each one. Last week’s contest theme was “Landscapes”. Due to my days being filled with work, kids activities and cooking & cleaning, I didn’t have time to go out and take any new shots. Instead I used photos that I had taken over the past couple of years. I submitted a Duluth sunrise and a sunset, a photo of Lake Superior with a lighthouse in the background and another of a waterfall at the Lester River. Much to my surprise, this last one was chosen as a semi-finalist. I took this photo during my Community Ed. photography class field trip two years ago. My entry is nestled among some beyond amazing photos. Take a look for yourself, here. Much to Mike’s dismay, I didn’t end up winning a prize. But as I told him, “It was an honor to be nominated”.

Sophia and I took a walk around the yard looking for spring flowers this morning. The daffodils are still blooming, but we saw two new varieties we hadn’t seen before. Here is one of them.

The bleeding heart already has flowers and it is only the beginning of May.

The violets are still blooming.

Sophia decided to pick a bouquet.

The wild strawberries just started blooming…in the lawn…much to Michael’s disdain.

And the cherry blossoms are still beautiful. We even caught a bee doing his work.

Here’s our favorite photo of the day.
