Week 25 Theme ~ Crave
Yesterday – the first official day of summer, temperatures were in the 50’s, rain poured down all day and wind gusts were over 40 mph. The weather is no different today. I CRAVE sun, warm temperatures and a trip to the beach!

We waited for the snow to begin Tuesday afternoon and then into the evening. A few snowflakes began at around 6pm and then stopped abruptly an hour later. The kids went to bed hoping for school to be closed the next day as the weather forecaster were still predicting snow. At 5am Daphne needed to go outside. Mike reported back that the driveway was bare – no snow. The winds had been strong and gusty all night long and continued throughout the day on Wednesday. Sustained winds were around 50mph at one point and a gust of 70mph was recorded on the Bong Bridge between Duluth and Superior. The waves on the lake continued to be high. I made a stop in Canal Park at the location I took photos the day before. The spray of lake water in the parking lot was too much for me to even get out of my vehicle – no pictures and still no snow. I couldn’t help but check back this morning (Thursday) after the winds had died down to see what the landscape looked like next to the Aerial Lift Bridge and Lake Superior shore…it was incredible!

Mother nature never ceases to amaze us. Our weather may not be the best in the country, but it certainly is the most interesting and beautiful.
The kids had the day off from school today for semester break. Mike took the day off so that they could go skiing. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate. The overnight low was -24 degrees and when Sebastian rolled out of bed at 9:45am it was still about 20 below zero. Needless to say, the skiing plans were canceled. So what do you do when it’s 20 below outside? You do a little science experiment – take a cup of boiling water, throw it up in the air outside and watch the water/steam form into ice crystals midair.
Mike and the kids did venture out of the house for the afternoon – lunch at Subway, a little book shopping at Barnes and Noble. They picked up a Papa Murphy’s pizza for dinner and a movie to watch afterwards. Overall, a good day off from school (and work) despite the cold.
