Daphne is becoming more settled in our house and has a routine now. She still gets excited when the kids get up in the morning or when we arrive home after work. She thoroughly enjoyed all of the attention she received when we were home Saturday and Sunday last weekend. She has shown us her love of tennis balls and plays fetch any opportunity that she gets. The weather has been cool and wet this week so we have resorted to playing “bounce fetch” in the garage. She doesn’t mind all the rain we’ve had this week (as much as we have) and will go for walks when it’s drizzling. Just watch out when she shakes!
Sophia’s soccer game was cancelled on Wednesday, as were the races for Sebastian. We spent the evening inside watching the torrential downpour and high winds bending the trees to very near their breaking point. We had a family game night with Uno Attack, I Spy Bingo and Phase 10. A nice change of pace from all the craziness of summer.
We are looking forward to a quiet weekend ahead. The clouds and rain are supposed to dissipate and be replaced with sun and warm (not hot) temperatures. Daphne has a vet visit this afternoon and Sebastian has a birthday party on Sunday. Other than that, our weekend is unscheduled – Yea!

We have had a great week with beautiful weather and lots of activities. Temperatures have been in the 80’s (finally) and the sun has been shining every day this week. The warm temperatures have made it a bit more difficult to sleep at night since we still do not have air-conditioning. We did finally order three sets of new windows for the bedrooms. This will allow for a window air-conditioner in our bedroom. Needless to say, Mike is quite excited. No more sleeping in the basement on those really hot nights.
THURSDAY – We finished our regular season of volleyball last night with a 2-1 match. The games were tight and the other team had a very aggressive player who spiked the ball every chance he had. Playoffs start next week – wish us luck!
WEDNESDAY – Sophia had her 2nd soccer game on Wednesday. She played most of the game with only a couple of short breaks. She did a lot of running and got her foot on the ball serveral times. Her face was bright red by the end of the game. The kids were all excited for our after-game snack – Icee push pops! She is still the only girl playing on the team, but she doesn’t seem to mind. Mike, Sebastian and I all cheered her on.
TUESDAY – Mike’s 42nd birthday was on Tuesday. He took the day off to golf with a friend at the Black Bear course. Mike and his friend both had great games, but Mike was happy to have beaten his friend by 2 strokes. After golf, Mike picked up the kids early from daycare and spent the afternoon playing in the backyard and swimming in the pool until I got home after work. John and Denise had put a huge pack of steaks in the fridge for Mike’s birthday present. We enjoyed those with fresh corn on the cob and french bread. We also had homemade birthday cake for dessert. Yellow cake with homemade chocolate frosting – Mike’s favorite.

MONDAY – We welcomed a new member into our family on Monday. Her name is Daphne and she is a 4 year old boxer.
Daphne
Mike and I read this bio on Daphne and saw her photo and we knew we had to see her. We drove to Wyoming, Minnesota on Saturday to meet her. On Monday we officially adopted her into our family.
Daphne is a beautiful dog and very petite for a boxer. She was found at one year, abused and very shy of men. Three years later, she has gone through 2 levels of training, housetrained, crated trained, goes potty on command, loves children and her humans. Cats????
Daphne loves her baths and for fun, running through a sprinkler or just standing in the spray! She is also a good watch dog, but definitely not aggressive. She loves females and will warm up to men.
She is very well trained, runs around without a leash and has excellent recall. Daphne has lots of energy like a pup, but is also a nice housedog.
Boxers need lots of exercise, human contact, TLC, and a job. Her new home will need those qualifications. Daphne is spayed, micro-chipped utd on vaccines and heartworm tested.
We had an evening filled with soccer and races last night. I took Sophia to her very first soccer game while Mike drove Sebastian to Central High School for Wednesday Night at the Races. Sebastian’s race finished early enough that they were able to make it for the second half of Sophia’s game.
Sophia was asked to do the kick-off to start the game. Her kick-off led to a goal by one her teammates. The kids were all pretty excited. So were the parents. The team played well and Sophia did a great job keeping up with the ball. She didn’t kick the ball a lot, but it may have been that she was outnumbered by the very energetic boys on her team. Or maybe she was waiting to make her first kick worthwhile – a goal. Yes, her first kick of night resulted in a goal for her team. Way to go, Sophia!
Look for number “34” in the photos below – or the only kid with a ponytail and pink shorts on the Congdon team. 🙂

Sebastian lined up with thirty-five 7 & 8 year old boys for his 1/4 mile race. He had a nice pace at the start of the race, but kicked it into high gear to finish. He passed several kids and ended up placing 5th at 1 minute 34 seconds. Nice job, Sebastian!
