Creating Memories

On the days leading up to my birthday I received a few pieces of advice.  Some were about how to deal with turning 40, others were just about living life to the fullest.  Here are a few of my favorites:

  • The 40’s are a wonderful decade.  You have all the knowledge that you gained throughout your thirties and can use it to experience all the joys of life.
  • You have two choices in life – you can choose to be a happy person or an unhappy person.
  • Using your resources to create memories is much more important than using them to get/buy more stuff.

The best part of turning 40 was being surrounded by family and friends on my birthday.  My party was a surprise and to be honest, I don’t normally like surprises.  I’m an event planner by trade (and a Mom) – I prepare for everything.  Although my first reaction was one of panic when I walked into the room, I was so happy to see my wonderful husband, fabulous kids, parents, siblings, in-laws, friends and co-workers all there to celebrate with me.  It was the best birthday ever.  Thank you Mike.  You are the best husband a woman could ever wish for!  Thank you for creating memories with me over the years and for the many more memories to come.

I missed my opportunity to photograph this Gerbera daisy in the warmth of sunshine that we had earlier in the week.  Instead I photographed it in today’s gloomy, overcast weather.  This pretty little flower was a gift from Sophia for Mother’s Day.  The bloom is almost finished, but I am eagerly awaiting many more blossoms from one of my favorite flowering  plants.
