With snow showers during the day, I didn’t give much thought to staying up late on a work night to take photos of the lunar eclipse. Just before getting ready for bed, I peeked out our front window and was surprised to see stars and the beginnings of the lunar eclipse. I set up my tripod, put a long lens on my camera, bundled up and headed out the front door. Lucky for me, I was able to set up my tripod on our steps and have a front row seat to the eclipse. There were passing clouds that interfered with my photos, but I was able to get a handful of decent shots before heavier cloud cover rolled in at 11:00 p.m.

Oh my goodness, you got some sharp shots! If I may ask, what settings did you use for these?

Thank you so much for your reply. I think I left my shutter on for too long. Some shots came out ok, but I had constant issues with blur.

I forgot to add that I used a tripod. That might be obvious, but with low light, nighttime photography, a tripod is a must.

Oh of course, that’s definitely a must. I was surprised to see some photographers without them last night. Not sure how those turned out but they seemed pretty happy about the shots at the time.

Photos always look better on a small LCD screen vs. a large computer monitor. 🙂
